Celebrating Success: Unlocking Your Potential in 2020

Two Inspiring Success Stories...

"I started this journey with the idea that I wanted to have weight loss surgery; in a sense I had given up on doing this on my own. Since being in the weight management program I realized I have all the tools I need to do this on my own and that in itself is so empowering."

Witnessing what others achieve with simple lifestyle changes can be a powerful motivator. That’s why we are so grateful that the two following participants of our various wellness programs were willing to share their journey to weight loss and lifestyle change success. These two women have been engaged in the employee wellness program, working closely with our team's registered dietitian, health coach and fitness trainers. Our programs are founded on meeting individuals where they are and inspiring gradual, but lasting changes to behaviors and lifestyle. These two ladies are perfect examples of how hard work, dedication and gradual habit change can lead to success.

Dafina is a participant in the employee wellness program and additionally has been engaging regularly with SB Wellness Dietitian, Amanda Perron. Since April 2019, she has dropped 25 pounds and significantly reduced her body fat. Along with the changes in body composition, Dafina shares the many other positive changes in her life.

Tell us about the changes you have experienced in the program.
“With all the numbers aside, I noticed that the healthier I ate and the more I exercised. I just felt way more comfortable in my own body. The changes have impacted my confidence, I’m in a better mood, I have more energy and my clothes fit better. I feel a lot better overall and I’ve had a boost in motivation for everything.

How has your success impacted other areas of your life?
"I used to have problems with acid reflux and tried multiple ways to get rid it of it. But it just took getting rid of fried foods and figuring out what triggered it. I still have not reached my goals of where I want to be with my body, but it has taught me patience. I  have had drawbacks, where I gained some weight back, and worked to get it off again. However, I’ve realized as long as I continue making better lifestyle decisions and take my time with changing even my thinking process for a healthier lifestyle, I will be good.”

What elements of the Wellness Program do you feel has been the most helpful?
"Most certainly talking with and receiving suggestions from Amanda (Program Dietitian). Also, reviewing the Tanita Scale measurements (body composition analyzer) has been very helpful."

Any other comments or things you feel would be helpful for others to hear
"The most difficult part is getting started. Once you start seeing the differences in your body and how you feel, you will want to continue. Counting calories is not ideal, but honestly, it’s worked best for me because I started to understand how a few bites of one thing or a few pieces of candy can add up, especially during the holidays."

As a member of the HYHB Weight Management Program, Ariel has lost 42 pounds in the past six months. Even more inspiring, with the tools and habit changes she has developed, Ariel has decided to delay her decision to have weight loss surgery.

Tell us about the changes you have experienced in the program.
"Since June I have lost 42 pounds. I feel much better about myself and I feel like the tips and tricks I learn from the health coaches stick with me. I an able to be more active and I am happier. Taking care of my health has also motivated me to practice more self-care. It's changed the way I present myself, because I feel more confident."

What elements of the Weight Management Program do you feel has been the most helpful?
"Journaling my food has been the biggest eye opener on how I eat and the food choices I make. Also knowing that people are looking and paying attention adds that level of accountability.  Meeting with the health coach and dietitian adds a sense of accountability to the program. Karli and Amanda (WM Program Health Coach and Dietitian) pay attention to our conversations and they keep me motivated.
