Dr. Robert Shipley, Director of the
Quit Smart program at Duke University
Medical Center, developed quit Smart from over 20 years of research and
practice.
Employees like Quit Smart because it gives them the tools they want to
quit smoking by including a hypnosis audiotape and a patented cigarette
substitute.
Each day smoking kills 1300 people in the United States. One out of every two
smokers will die prematurely from a smoking-related illness. Those people killed
by smoking will lose an average of 12 to 21 years of life.
Estimates of the excess cost per smoking employee vary widely, but even
conservative estimates put the figure at about $1500 per smoker per year! The
1995 Surgeon General's report concluded that stop smoking programs would yield a
higher return on investment than any other wellness program.
The one-year success rate with most multi-session stop smoking programs is 20-
25%. Quit Smart is twice as effective, yet takes only three class sessions -
your employees do not miss much work time. As shown in our promotional brochure,
a large study of employees at Martin Marietta Energy Systems in Oak Ridge, TN
found a one-year quit rate of 51% for Quit Smart, versus 20% for the Breathe
Free program. I would love the opportunity to discuss with you how I can help
your employees break free of cigarettes. These programs can be conducted for
group participation or individual sessions.
